Changes to Guest WiFi and ILL System

Hi All,

The "Tarleton-Guest" WiFi option is no longer available.
Guest users will need to log onto "Tarleton-Visitors" to access the WiFi.

Note that this WiFi account does not allow access to the library's databases.
If guest users need to access the library's resources, they will need to ask for a Guest Pass at the Reference Desk.

Additionally, the ILL system has changed from Illaid to Tipasa, so when users log in, the interface will look different. When helping a user, please make sure that they indicate the correct delivery location on the request form because they will need to select a specific delivery location with each ILL request.

No Guest Passes During Finals

Effective Today: 

We will not be giving out guest passes until Thursday, May 10th due to finals. 

Exceptions:  If a guest user needs to register for classes or perform any other Tarleton-related business, you may issue them a guest pass.

Guest Passes Resume Today

Hi All,

Since finals are now over, we will resume giving out guest passes.

Also, since traffic is slow during this time, guests can come in and get a guest pass at any time we're open.

No Guest Passes During Finals (December 7th-13th)

Hi All,

I placed a sign out at the Reference Desk but also wanted to remind everyone working the desk that we will not be issuing guest passes from December 7th - December 13th.

We will resume guest passes on the first day of interim,  December 14th.

If someone needs to conduct official university business, then they can still receive a guest pass.
For example, if someone is trying to enroll or register for classes then please give them a guest pass.

Texan Bucks Unavailable July 31st - August 2nd

Hi Reference Team!

I wanted to give everyone who works the desk a heads up about Texan Bucks being unavailable from July 31st-August 2nd (Monday-Wednesday).

This means that students who have used up their $5 credit for the summer and have added money to their Texan Card will not be able to print from their accounts. If a student comes to the Reference Desk needing to print, please just print their job from the Reference Desk Computer for them.

Copiers will be cash only during this time so if someone does not have cash, they will need to use the KIC scanner and print their job from a computer. Again, if they have issues printing their scan, please print their job from the Reference Desk Computer.

Guest Copy Cards will also be unavailable for use or purchase as well.

Additionally, this affects payments at the Circulation Desk so patrons will need to either pay with cash or wait until after August 2nd to pay their bill.

Guest Passes

Hi Reference Team!

We are now giving out guest passes at any time during the day since we are slower in the summer.

Guest users must present a photo I.D. to obtain a guest pass.

Money on Guest Copy Card

Recently, I found $1 while I was going to my car and put that amount in the coin can at the Reference Desk so it could be used there as needed.

Today, a long-time student (currently in-between semesters) was signed in as a guest and needed to print a page.  Rather than make him buy a guest card to print 1 page, I used change from the coin can and put $1 on the copy/print card that's in the ref desk supplies.

Guest Category Reporting (Repost)

I'm re-posting and refreshing a post I did last October on Guest categories for those folks that might have missed it the first time around and those who need a reminder. 

Going through the guest password stats this month, I've noticed a few discrepancies in how we are categorizing guest patrons in that system. I record those stats and report them, so it's important that we select a category for each user, and that we select the correct category, so we know who is using the system. We use the stats to justify continuing the program and they are reported as part of our TexShare obligations.

Please  make sure that you put in a full first and last name, as shown on the person's photo ID, for each person you give a password to, otherwise that person is not counted in the stats.

I know the categories can be a little up for interpretation (for example, a parent that is also an alumnus), but I've outlined some definitions below, just so we are all on the same page :)

• Alumni - People who have graduated from Tarleton. Generally, they should be a member of the Tarleton Alumni Association.
• Community - A person from Stephenville or the surrounding areas who is not a Tarleton student, faculty, staff or alumnus.
• Friend of the Library - a person who is a current member of the Friends of the Dick Smith Library group
• Future Student - A person who has applied for admission to Tarleton, or has been accepted, but not yet started classes or enrolled.
• Parent - The parent of a Tarleton student or a Future Student.
• Student- A Tarleton student, who is otherwise unable to log into the computers. Tarleton students (including those who mainly attend classes at other campuses or online) should not normally need to use the guest system. They should use their NTNET log-ins. However, sometimes students are not in the system for whatever reason, and they can use the guest system. This usually happens at the beginning of the semester, if they haven't yet registered for classes for that semester. Students from other schools should be marked as "TexShare". 
• TexShare - People from other institutions who are using Tarleton resources. This includes students from other colleges (including Ranger College and Weatherford), high school students, visiting professors and lecturers, etc. Please include the person's institution in the "Note" field.
• Other Guest - pretty self explanatory, but may cover people from outside the area, etc. Please use sparingly.

Texans-Guest Network

Hi Reference Team!

We now have a guest wireless network called Texans-Guest which allows our guest users to sign up for an account in order to use our WIFI on their laptop/mobile devices while on campus.

This is what the user should see on their laptop/device.

NOTE: The guest user can not be affiliated with Tarleton or have a Tarleton email address. They must also submit a valid email address and mobile phone number to register for an account.


Once the user has created an account, it is good for 3 days; however, they must sign in every 24 hours for the account to remain active. After the 3 days, they will need to request another guest account.


NOTE: ITS monitors the request but guests may not have immediate access during "odd" hours such as late nights and weekends. Please make sure that the user is aware; they are welcome to use our computers for Internet access via our Guest Pass system if they do not receive an account for the WIFI immediately.



The user will need to open a web browser in order to access this login screen.
 The user will need to select "Request a Guest Account" if they do not have one already.
 

All of the fields are required in order to submit a request for a Guest Account.

There will be limited access to campus resources through this network; however, the users should have full access to the library databases.

Please report any issues you encounter with database access to Tracy.
