Recently, I found $1 while I was going to my car and put that amount in the coin can at the Reference Desk so it could be used there as needed.
Today, a long-time student (currently in-between semesters) was signed in as a guest and needed to print a page. Rather than make him buy a guest card to print 1 page, I used change from the coin can and put $1 on the copy/print card that's in the ref desk supplies.
Hope what I did is okay.

Library Training Center
Hi Reference Team!
Please make sure that you're keeping an eye on the Library Training Center while you're at the desk. Today, the room was left unlocked and a student was found working on a paper by themselves without a reservation. If you find the room empty and unlocked, please turn off the light and lock the door.
If you would like to check to see if there's a reservation, you can call the Circulation Desk, (254)968-9450.
Note that the key to unlock/lock the door is the 558 key which everyone should have access to at the desk.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
Thanks!
Christy

Reminder: Tracking Reams of Paper & Toner
Team,
I just wanted to send out a quick reminder to please log reams of paper going into printers/copiers (everyone is doing great on this btw) and to log toner cartridges that go into printers (we haven't been doing a good job of this). As you know, Ream Usage Tracking sheets are in the plastic sleeves under the cabinets with the reams of paper. Should the tracking sheet get full, there are several copies of extra tracking sheets in a folder at the Reference desk labeled "Ream Usage Tracking Sheets". There are Toner Logging Sheets at each service desk. If you have any questions on how to log reams of paper or toner, please feel free to ask me. I will gladly help you. We are going to be busy over the next week, so it's important to stay on top of the printers and copiers. We've got this! :)
Happy Finals Frenzy,
Crystal

Reference Team:
There are 3 computers with out of order signs. Computer 6: the tower & holder are broken and its on the ground and the extra parts are at the Reference desk. Computer 5: Tower in holder is pushed back too far. Computer 1: The screen says Systems Deployment Menu. Boot from local hard drive and the boot keeps counting down. I have filled out a computer report.

TCC Students
Hi Reference Team!
Lisa emailed me today regarding Tarrant County College (TCC) students calling the Reference Desk for information if she's unavailable.
Here's the information we need to assist these particular students:

Here's the information we need to assist these particular students:
Our TCC students have a different
log-on than our TSU students.
For this semester their log-on is ID:
TCC_student; PW: Tcc15easy.
Also if they are needing to print they need
to go to the Hickman Library queue rather than the Release Station.
Please let Lisa or me know if you have any questions!
Thanks!

Child Development Class Assignment
There's a child development class with an assignment to find picture books for preschoolers fitting various categories. They don't have to check the books out, just list the title and author, and then have a librarian (or someone working at the reference desk) sign the list for them.
I'll be glad to help them while I am here, but I'm leaving a little after 4 PM today and will be out tomorrow, and the assignment is due on Sunday. It is an online course, so many of the students may be using their local public libraries for this assignment. I have signed three so far over the past three days.
Here are the categories, and some tips to find each:
Note too that in LibraryThing in the Comments field, I have put Accelerated Reader information when available. The first number is a reading level. That's not as important in this case since these books are for preschoolers and can be read aloud, but a level that's *too* high might have content beyond them. What you do want to look for is "K-3" after the reading level, as that is the interest level for the book. There is no "preschool" interest level in Accelerated Reader, but K-3 books should work.

It is an online course, so many of the students may be using their local public libraries for this assignment. I have signed three so far over the past three days.
Here are the categories, and some tips to find each:
- Five fiction picture books - I recommend just browsing in the PZ7s. You can also use the LibraryThing links below and look for books tagged "realistic fiction," "historical fiction," "fantasy," and "traditional literature."
- Five nonfiction picture books - I recommend browsing everything but all the PZs and poetry (PS), or use this list: http://www.librarything.com/catalog/rdg301library&deepsearch=%252Bpicture+book+%252Bnonfiction. You can also use the LibraryThing links below and look for books tagged "biography."
- Two wordless picture books - use books on this list: http://www.librarything.com/catalog/rdg301library&deepsearch=%252Bpicture+book+%252Bwordless, or search the catalog for "stories without words" (in quotes) in a subject search.
- Three Caldecott picture books (I believe either winners or honor books will work) - see http://www.ala.org/alsc/awardsgrants/bookmedia/caldecottmedal/caldecotthonors/caldecottmedal. We pretty much have all of these. I've also tagged a FEW (but by no means all) here: http://www.librarything.com/catalog/rdg301library&deepsearch=%252Bpicture+book+%252Bcaldecott. If browsing the shelves, note that we have also put "Randolph Caldecott Award" stickers near the call numbers of these books, and a red dot near the bottom of the spine (since you cannot see the sticker on picture books when they are on the shelf).
- Five multicultural picture books - a starting point is this list: http://www.librarything.com/catalog/rdg301library&deepsearch=%252Bpicture+book+%252Bdiversity. When the list comes up, refer to the specific tags for each book for the type of diversity (Latino, Native American, African American, Asian American, etc.). This list also addresses other types of diversity, so be careful. It also does NOT include books such as traditional literature (fairy tales, folktales, etc.) from other cultures cultures – you can browse the PZ8s and PZ8.1s for some of those. (example: Grandma and the Great Gourd: A Bengali Folktale, a PZ8.1 currently on display with the new books behind the lower level reference desk).
